Innovation Zero 2024 Main Stage

REDUCING OUR COLLECTIVE CARBON FOOTPRINT

The events industry is working hard to reduce its collective footprint by the year 2050 - more information on this can be found here.

A carbon neutral event means that event organisers have made efforts to reduce non-essential emissions and offset the remaining unavoidable greenhouse gases to balance out emissions resulting from event activities.

THE VENUE

We have chosen to host the event at Olympia which is one of the first UK venues to commit to Net Zero pledge at COP26. To read more on this click here.

The venue has a comprehensive sustainability programme, the Grand Plan, and they are helping us to improve our event’s sustainability. Among the initiatives implemented are zero waste to landfill, a recycling rate of over 98%, food waste reduction and recycling, and plastics reduction, all of which are detailed below:

Zero Waste to Landfill

Olympia London actively encourages waste reduction and recycles or reuses 100% of waste generated at the venue. To discourage excess waste a charge will be made for the disposal of any ‘excessive’ items or materials left on site at the end of the event, e.g. stand fitting, carpet, carpet rolls, graphics, boxes of literature, signage. The charge goes towards disposing of it sustainably.

Food Waste Reduction

Olympia London is a supporting partner of WRAP’s food waste reduction campaign ‘Guardians of Grub’. They work closely with their catering partner to ensure that waste is kept to a minimum and that any left-over edible food is redistributed within our community to those who need it. Inedible food waste is sent to an anaerobic digestion plant for conversion into bio fuel and fertiliser.

Plastics reduction

The venue caterer has worked hard to eliminate single-use plastic from their operation as far as possible. We encourage you and your team to bring reusable cups and refillable water bottles to the venue. Discounts are available for hot drinks purchased in reusable cups and water refilling stations are located around the venue. Caterers will also refill water bottles on request. For more details on the venue’s sustainability efforts, you can access the following documents:

THE CONTRACTORS

We have specifically chosen our partner contractors because of their sustainability policies.

Please see the supporting information below:

Creative Group - Shell Scheme / Electrics / Flooring / Space Only Build / Furniture / Graphics & Signage

AZTEC AV - Audio Visual

GES - Registration, Ticketing & Badging

HOST Olympia - Catering Partner

Merchandise - Lanyards Our event lanyards are supplied by Merchandise Ltd, using RPET (Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate), a sustainable material made from recycled plastic. These lanyards are designed to be reused and recycled after the event.

Sustainability Features: Recyclable Material: RPET lanyards can be recycled multiple times, reducing plastic waste. Eco-Friendly Sourcing: Made from repurposed plastic bottles, minimizing environmental impact.

Attendees can drop their lanyards into the designated Recycling Boxes on their way out. If returning for Day Two, we encourage keeping and reusing them until the event concludes.

THE ORGANISERS

A sustainability report will be taken for the event to give us key information, such as energy usage, waste tonnage and recycling rates; this allows us compare data year to year and track improvements in the event’s sustainability.

Any unavoidable emissions caused by the organisers' direct activities which cannot be eliminated in the course of hosting the event will be offset.

THE EXHIBITORS AND SPONSORS

We actively encourage exhibitors and sponsors to improve the sustainability of their activities at the event, by reducing emissions, waste, noise, and energy consumption. Below are some of the things we encourage you to take part in to help us to be as reduce non-essential emissions as much as possible: Use our official contractors who have been specifically chosen because of their sustainability policies for all services to limit the amount of vehicles delivering to the venue. Space Only stands use Creative Live to build your stand as they do so out of re-usable metal modular system frames. Eliminate or limit the use of single use wood. Be economical with printed material. If you are intending on using catering on your stand consider the quantity and options you are choosing (all orders must be placed here or venue concession fees will apply). Reduce waste as much as possible and recycle what is left. If you are doing giveaways, consider items that promote sustainability, such as coffee thermoses, mugs, or reusable bags. Consider how you are travelling to site - opt for public transport where possible and send the most local team members. Bring a re-usable water bottle and / or coffee cup with you. Bring your own Bluetooth headset with you. Use the stairs rather than the lift to access the balcony level for the Organisers Offices (if you are able). Consider carbon offsetting the unavoidable emissions caused.
