Husain Al Meer

Director of Global Offshore Wind & UK, Masdar
As Director of Global Offshore Wind & UK at Masdar, Husain Al Meer is responsible for leading Masdar's investments in the Global Offshore Wind (OSW) sector and the UK market as well as managing Masdar's relationship in the UK (including with the Government of the UK and the UK Embassy in the UAE). Husain's mandates include managing Masdar's existing OSW portfolio (London Array Offshore Wind Farm, Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm, Hywind Floating Offshore Wind Farm and the accompanying battery storage solution, Batwind), maturing Masdar's 2GWh battery storage pipeline in the UK, progressing OSW M&A transactions and participating in OSW seabed right auctions. Prior to his current role, Husain was seconded into Equinor (previously Statoil) for 6 years to work as Contract Advisor for both the Dudgeon and Hywind projects. During his time at Equinor, Husain also worked as the Deputy O&M Plant Manager for Dudgeon and was involved in the early development of the 3.6GW Dogger Bank Project and the 2GW Empire Project. In 2019, Husain was appointed as Masdar's representative on the UK-UAE Business Council and Deputy Chair of the energy working group. He is also a member of the London Array Board of Directors, a member of the Dudgeon Extension Board of Directors, a member of Joint Economic Committee of UAE-UK, UAE-South Korea and Energy Committee for UAE-Japan. Prior to joining Masdar, Husain worked in the electricity and water sectors at the Abu Dhabi Distribution Company. He held two strategic positions in the Assets Management Directorate (in the Electricity Planning and Assets Performance departments), which shaped his knowledge and experience in the life cycle of assets from inception through to their disposal or replacement. Husain is currently pursuing a PhD in Economics and Policy of Energy and Environment from the University College of London, having already completed his Masters in the subject at the same institution. His other academic achievements include a Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Management, a Master of Science in Engineering Management from Abu Dhabi University, and a degree in Electrical Engineering.
