Alexandra Howe
Alexandra is the Deputy Director for the Energy Review in the Climate Change Energy and Environment Directorate in the UK Ministry of Defence. This involves leading a study into the feasibility of a Defence Estate-wide approach to harnessing funding for future energy security, energy resilience, energy efficiency and decarbonisation. Prior to this Alex was Deputy Director for Levelling Up, The Union, Climate Change and Sustainability which involved defining Defence’s Levelling Up ambition, integrating Environmental Protection across Defence, building a multi-lateral international approach to Climate Security, and catalysing Climate and Sustainability activity across Defence.
Before joining Defence Alex worked at in the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ - formerly known as BEIS), leading teams across energy and climate change. Her work focused on the challenges of whole system decarbonisation, gas storage, ensuring gas security amidst global uncertainties and extreme price spikes, the energy impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, delivering a negotiated solution for Northern Ireland Brexit electricity security and launching a new process for short-term GB electricity security.
