Chemical Sector Decarbonization

The chemical sector is a key sector in MENA’s economic growth, one of the most energy-intensive industries globally and a significant contributor to carbon emissions. In MENA, and particularly in Saudi Arabia, the industry is seeking to maintain its growth potential and contributing to the region’s climate ambitions . This session will explore how Saudi Arabia’s chemical giants—along with international partners—are advancing new technologies to manage emissions, from carbon capture and storage (CCS) and hydrogen, process electrification, and circular petrochemicals. Experts will present case studies on low-carbon ammonia, green methanol, and bio-based chemicals, alongside a discussion of the financial incentives needed to scale these solutions.
