THE FUTURE OF THE ALTERNATIVE PROTEIN INDUSTRY

01 May 2024
Food & Agriculture Forum
Investment Supply Chain Innovation

Animal agriculture is a major contributor to climate change, accounting for about 15% of global emissions, with most of them coming from livestock production. With demand for beef projected to rise by as much as 80% by 2050, alternative proteins, such as plant-based meat and dairy substitutes, insect-based proteins and cell-based/cultivated meat, offer a sustainable solution to meeting the nutritional needs of both humans and animals.

The alternative proteins market is expected to account for between 11% and 22% of the overall protein market by 2035. Thanks to the investment and innovations in this sector, alternative proteins can be produced more efficiently, sustainably, at a lower cost and to a higher quality, than ever before. In this session, we will explore how the alternative protein industry can enhance food security, animal welfare and the health of the planet. We will also discuss the benefits, challenges and opportunities of these novel proteins, which have the potential to transform our global food system.
