30 Apr 2025
Innovation Showcase

Description: The UK Government has recognized the critical role that Long Duration Energy Storage (LDES) will play in the future of the country's energy system, setting a target of 4-6 GW of LDES capacity by 2030 and 5-10 GW by 2035. As part of this push, Ofgem is tasked to launch Window 1 of the LDES Cap & Floor scheme in April 2025. These developments mark significant progress in the delivery of LDES in the UK, which encompasses a range of technologies capable of storing energy for 8+ hours, including Hydrostor’s advanced compressed air energy storage technology. While each technology offers unique value to the energy system, a mix of solutions will be essential to ensure energy security, reliability, and the cost-effective integration of energy sources. But how are the UK’s LDES goals going to be achieved? Join this session to learn why there needs to be competitive procurement processes that effectively evaluate the diverse benefits of these technologies, along with strong and timely investment signals, that will be crucial for meeting the country’s growing energy storage needs.
