Fixing Fission: Green Taxonomies and Red Tape in Nuclear
Nuclear power is now officially classified as environmentally sustainable in the UK’s green taxonomy. However, seven out of the nine nuclear power reactors present in the United Kingdom are projected to have a remaining operational life of one to two years, and new plants are not expected to become operational until the 2030s.
How can innovations in nuclear, including SMRs and HALEU, help to decarbonise our power supply in time for us to reach our net zero targets? How can we streamline planning consent, incentivise investment and reduce costs? Panellists will discuss what innovations are on the horizon and what's needed to unlock their potential.
