WHY DOES CLIMATE CHANGE AND SUSTAINBILITY MATTER TO DEFENCE?

01 May 2024
Green Stage

Why does climate change and sustainability matter to defence? Defence has a desire to achieve self-sufficiency of the deployed force which is adaptable to the effects of climate change whilst meeting its commitment to achieving net zero by 2050. In order to reduce vulnerability and improve the resilience of the deployed force it must move towards a more self-sufficient model to ensure operational effectiveness. In this panel, our speakers will explore the challenges that defence is addressing, including operational energy, deployable infrastructure, logistics, and adapting capabilities.

Technology can help us to become more effective in these areas, and our challenge is to follow the technologies that already exist, and inspire the next generation of solutions through encouraging non-traditional defence and those wanting to break into the defence sector to work with the PACE project at Dstl, alongside Ploughshare. Join us to find out more about the defence problems-space and how scientists and innovators can help defence to achieve resilience.
