Innovation Zero Insights Report: Towards Electrifying the Economy

Electrification is becoming a strategic priority for UK businesses, offering the potential to reduce operating costs, improve resilience, unlock new revenue streams and strengthen long-term competitiveness. However, the transition is being slowed by a series of systemic barriers, including grid constraints, high electricity prices, skills shortages, capital costs and fragmented policy frameworks.

To explore these challenges, Innovation Zero convened 42 senior leaders from across industry, energy, finance, government and technology. A clear consensus emerged: electrification is not simply a technology switch, but a fundamental transformation of how organisations operate, invest and interact with the energy system. Success will depend on coordinated action across businesses, system operators and policymakers.
