Urs Dieterich

Managing Director, Landscape Resilience Fund, South Pole

Urs spent the last 4 years designing and managing the Landscape Resilience Fund, a public-private venture philanthropy fund and charitable foundation that aims to shape the future of climate adaptation. The fund was co-developed by South Pole and WWF and provides loans and technical assistance to innovative SMEs working closely with smallholder farmers in the Global South to improve the climate resilience of vulnerable landscapes.

Prior to joining South Pole, Urs worked at the infrastructure investor Aquila Capital where he managed renewable energy investments on behalf of institutional clients. Curious to experience first-hand the opportunities and barriers for creating impact at the grassroots level, he also worked on community-based reforestation in Kenya, forest monitoring in Armenia, carbon forestry in Colombia, and soil science research in Indonesia. Further, he served as Focal Point to the Major Group Children and Youth at the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF). Urs holds a B.Sc. in Forestry Science & Resource Management from Technical University Munich and a Masters of Environmental Management (MEM) from Yale University.
