Anne Johnstone is ESG Director at Vital Energi Utilities Ltd, a leading UK energy services company specialising in the design, build and operation of low-carbon infrastructure including large-scale district heat networks, energy centres and EfW plants. With over 20 years of environmental consulting experience prior to joining Vital Energi, she leads environmental, quality and social value strategy across the business, reporting to and guiding the Board.

Anne serves as Industry Co-Chair of the Centre for Net Zero High Density Buildings’ (CeNZ-HighDB) Thematic Working Group on Training, Education and Skills, and has been recognised for her contribution to decarbonisation through her inclusion on the Net Zero Top 50 list. Her career spans complex, large-scale decarbonisation projects, including work that has contribution to decarbonisation frameworks for major infrastructure clients such as Gatwick Airport, giving her a grounded, commercial perspective on what it takes to deliver clean heat at scale.

A passionate advocate for equity in the just transition, Anne believes that clean heat must work for every community, not just those best served by existing energy markets. She brings a practitioner’s rigour to the policy and commercial realities of deploying heat networks at scale.

Anne is a regular speaker and commentator on the energy transition and is based in Scotland.
