Alice Spencer

Executive Director of Education, Cambridge Institute for Sustainable Leadership (CISL)

The Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) is an impact-led, globally influential Institute working across business, policy and finance to develop leadership capabilities and solutions for a sustainable economy.

Alice is part of CISL’s Senior Leadership Team and the Executive Director of Education which encompasses three portfolios: a range of online courses, education programmes designed for corporate boards and executives and accredited postgraduate programmes including the Masters of Sustainability Leadership. Alice oversees the design and delivery of leadership education for 7,000-10,000 learners each year across the portfolio.

In her previous capacity as Director of Executive Education, she engaged directly to curate mindset-shifting, strategy defining programmes with a wide range of corporate executive clients across sectors and geographies. She was also previously the global lead for CISL’s flagship seminar, the Business & Sustainability Programme, founded by Patron King Charles III in 1994 and delivered each year in Cambridge, Singapore, Melbourne and Kenya.

Prior to joining CISL, Alice worked in Australia and New Zealand in Corporate, Not-for-Profit and Government roles, engaging with national and corporate strategies and social and environmental impact projects. These included leading the update of land and water legislation in South Canterbury, New Zealand; working across several large (150,000-400,000 hectare) cattle stations in the Northern Territory, Australia with R.M.Williams to improve social and biodiversity outcomes in addition to carbon farming as an alternative revenue stream; and writing the Natural Resource Management Plan for the Mackay and Whitsunday catchments and islands adjacent to the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland.

Alice has an MA Hons in Geography from the University of Edinburgh.
