Innovation Zero 2024 Main Stage

Innovation Zero World Congress platinum sponsor, E.ON Next, celebrates launch of UK’s first mass market time-of-use tariff

  • Hundreds of UK households have signed up to the tariff since it launched [on 10 April 2025].

  • E.ON Next Smart Saver allows customers to “take control” of their energy prices by shifting electricity use to off-peak and super off-peak times which have discounted rates.

E.ON Next has launched the UK’s first fixed time-of-use tariff for the mass-market, giving customers the power to reduce their energy bills by shifting their usage.

When compared to the Standard Variable Tariff (Next Flex), the new tariff offers cheaper rates for electricity used during off-peak and super off-peak hours (when demand is lower) and at higher rates during peak hours (when demand is higher).

Time-of-use tariffs are typically aimed at customers with home solutions such as EV chargers and heat pumps but, with Next Smart Saver, all customers who shift usage away from peak times can benefit without needing a home solution.

The 12-month fixed tariff features three different rates:

  • Off-peak (5am-4pm and 7pm-2am) – lower-cost periods at 20.11 p/kWh.

  • Super off-peak (2am-5am) – the cheapest rate at 16.33 p/kWh.

  • Peak (4pm-7pm) – a higher-cost period reflecting national energy demand at 38.48 p/kWh.

Julian Lennertz, Chief Commercial Officer at E.ON Next, said: "The Innovation Zero World Congress 2025 is happening at an incredibly important moment for people and the planet. Customers want more control over their bills, and we all want to see net-zero become a reality. Both are achievable through innovation.

“As a playmaker in the energy sector, our latest example is E.ON Next Smart Saver – the UK’s first mass market time-of-use tariff. It allows more people to save money, while supporting smarter energy use as the UK moves towards a greener, cleaner grid, by shifting demand away from peak times and reducing strain on the network.”

The tariff also includes a one-off donation to the Woodland Trust which will contribute towards restoring the UK’s ancient woodland.

With no exit fees on the tariff, customers have flexibility if their circumstances change.

Prices are valid at the time of publishing and subject to change. They are based on the national average and will vary by region. Customers must have a working smart meter and consent to sharing half-hourly data. T&C’s apply.
