Alier Continues the Decarbonization road with an 11.5 MW Self-Consumption Plant in Partnership with Engie

Alier and Engie have signed an agreement to design, finance, build and operate a ground-mounted photovoltaic plant for industrial self-consumption at the paper mill in Roselló (Lleida). The 11.5 MWp installation will generate up to 18 GWh annually, covering around 20% of the facility’s electricity demand with locally produced renewable energy.

The project is structured under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA), ensuring stable energy costs and supply over a 10-year period, after which ownership of the plant will be transferred to Alier. Engie will be responsible for the full lifecycle of the project, including performance guarantees.

With an investment of €5.6 million—partly supported by public funding—the plant is expected to avoid around 4,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions in its first year. This initiative builds on a previous biomass plant developed by both companies in 2024, reinforcing their long-term partnership and commitment to industrial decarbonization.
