Floating wind power is a crucial renewable energy solution.
However, its development is largely hindered by the high Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE), driven primarily by the weight of the substructure—especially its steel components.
The SusFloat system addresses this by significantly reducing structural weight. It suspends the turbine on an offset floating ring using tensioned strings. This ring is made up of many small concrete buoys, which not only lighten the structure but also reduce the carbon emissions associated with steel production.
Additional contributors to LCOE include the need for extensive port infrastructure, transportation, lifting capabilities, and complex installation procedures. SusFloat minimizes these through rapid component connections and a high degree of modularity, simplifying logistics and assembly.
