Erik Grigoryan
Erik Grigoryan is the Special Envoy of Armenia on Debt-for-Climate Negotiations. He brings 25 years of experience working at the intersection of government, international organizations, and global policy processes. From 2018 to 2020, he served as Armenia’s Minister of Environment, leading the country’s engagement under more than twenty international environmental conventions and advancing reforms in climate, biodiversity, and natural resource management. Today, alongside his official envoy role, he leads the Environment Group, providing advisory support on climate change, environmental policy, and sustainable finance.
Mr. Grigoryan is a Bureau Member and Chair of the Budget and Finance Working Group of IPBES, where he helps to steer the platform’s global biodiversity finance and governance agenda. He is also a Non-Resident Fellow at the Posterity Institute, contributing to thought leadership on sustainability and economic transformation.
Over the past decade, he has become one of the most active promoters of debt-for-climate and debt-for-nature swaps worldwide. He has authored numerous articles, policy briefs, and working papers on innovative green finance, and has advised governments and institutions in Sri Lanka, Pacific Island States, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, and other regions. His work continues to focus on linking financial innovation with climate ambition, ensuring countries can secure the resources needed for a resilient and sustainable future.
